Why have your brain mapped?

Traditional assessments rely on how you describe what you’re feeling. That’s useful — but it’s subjective. Two people can describe “anxiety” in identical terms and have completely different things happening in their brain.

A brain map gives us objective data. It shows us where your brain is overactive, where it’s underperforming, and how different regions are communicating with each other. Think of it as a weather report for your brain — a snapshot of what’s actually happening, not just what it feels like from the inside.

That means any treatment we recommend isn’t based on guesswork. It’s based on what your brain is actually doing.

What do the results show?

A brain map highlights the patterns behind the problems you’re experiencing. It connects what you’re feeling to what your brain is doing — so instead of treating symptoms in isolation, we can see the bigger picture and target the root cause.

Your results will show where your brain activity sits relative to healthy, high-performing individuals of the same age. We’ll walk you through what’s within a normal range, what’s flagged, and — most importantly — what it means in practical terms for how you feel and function day to day.

Everything is explained in plain English. No jargon, no confusion.

The science behind brain mapping

Brain mapping uses QEEG — quantitative electroencephalography. It’s the same technology used in neurology, psychiatry, sports science, and military performance programmes. It’s been used in clinical and research settings for decades.

The key difference from other brain scans: an MRI or CT scan shows you the structure of your brain — whether something is physically wrong. A QEEG shows you how your brain is functioning — how it behaves, how different areas communicate, and where the imbalances are.

It’s completely non-invasive. The sensors listen to your brain’s natural electrical activity — they don’t send anything in. No radiation, no injection, no pain.

Who is brain mapping treatment for?

Brain mapping is for anyone who wants a clearer picture of what’s going on — whether that’s a specific problem you’ve been struggling with or a concern you want to get ahead of.

  • People experiencing anxiety, low mood, brain fog, poor sleep, or attention difficulties — especially if previous approaches haven’t given you clear answers.
  • Parents looking for objective insight into a child’s focus, behaviour, or emotional regulation — beyond questionnaires and observation.
  • Those with a family history of Alzheimer’s, dementia, or Parkinson’s who want a baseline to track over time.
  • Professionals and high performers who want to understand how their brain operates under pressure and where there’s room to improve.
  • People recovering from stroke or concussion, where mapping can show which areas are still affected and help focus rehabilitation.

Brain mapping is suitable for most individuals aged 8 and above.

What happens during brain mapping treatment?

For years, brain health has been reactive—people seek help only when problems arise. We’re here to change that.

Before your session:

Come with clean, dry hair — no styling products. Avoid caffeine on the day and drink plenty of water. Let us know about any medications you’re taking.

At the clinic:

A comfortable cap with small sensors is placed on your head. A small amount of saline solution is applied under each sensor to help pick up a clean signal. It’s completely painless.

During the recording:

You sit and relax — eyes open for around 10 minutes, then eyes closed for another 10 minutes. The sensors record your brain’s natural activity. There’s no stimulation, no discomfort. Most people find it surprisingly easy.

After the recording:

Our team analyses your data and prepares your report. Within two weeks, you’ll have a consultation where we walk you through everything — what your brain is doing, what it means, and what we recommend.

The whole in-clinic session takes around 1 hour.

Brain mapping FAQs

Is brain mapping safe?

Yes. Completely non-invasive and painless. The sensors only listen — they don’t send anything into your brain.

Does it hurt?

No. The only thing you’ll feel is the cap on your scalp.

How long does it take?

Around 45-60 minutes in clinic the brain mapping session. The results consultation is a separate appointment, around 60-90 minutes.

How soon do I get results?

Within two weeks of your scan.

Can children have a brain map?

Yes — it’s suitable for most individuals aged 8 and above.

Is this a medical diagnosis?

No. A brain map provides objective data about brain function, but a formal diagnosis requires assessment by a licensed medical professional. Where appropriate, we’ll recommend specialist referral.

Can I do this remotely?

The scan itself is in person at our Harley Street clinic. The results consultation can be done by video.
